2023: In 15 games, Picton caught 17 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown. On July 6 against the visiting Edmonton Elks, he caught four passes for a career-high 76 yards (including a 39-yarder) to help Saskatchewan register a 12-11, come-from-behind victory. With 1:04 left in the fourth quarter, Picton caught a four-yard TD pass from Trevor Harris to reduce Edmonton’s lead to 11-9. Harris then hit Kendall Watson for a game-tying two-point convert. Brett Lauther proceeded to register the game-winning point — a rouge on the kickoff.
PRO: Picton was selected by Saskatchewan in the fifth round, 37th overall, of the 2017 CFL Draft. He made his CFL debut on July 27, 2019, when the Roughriders downed the host B.C. Lions 45-18. In 2021, Picton caught a career-best 25 passes for 218 yards and one TD in 10 games. His first CFL major — on an eight-yard pass from Cody Fajardo — was scored in a 30-8 victory over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Aug. 14, 2021. Picton played in 11 games for the 2022 Roughriders, catching 18 passes for 220 yards and two TDs. On June 18, 2022, he caught a game-winning, 28-yard TD pass from Fajardo against Edmonton at Commonwealth Stadium. Picton’s TD gave Saskatchewan a 21-16 lead with 4:12 remaining in the fourth quarter. He then registered a two-point convert to give the Roughriders a 23-16 advantage in a game they ultimately won 26-16.
COLLEGE: Picton spent five seasons (2013-17) at the University of Regina, playing in 38 Canada West games with the Rams. Over that span, he caught 170 passes for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns, most frequently in collaboration with his cousin — Rams quarterback Noah Picton. In 2016, Mitch Picton led Canada West in catches (58), receiving yards (834) and aerial touchdowns (11) en route to being named a Canada West All-Star and a First-Team All-Canadian. On Oct. 1, 2016, Picton caught two TD passes in the first football game played at Mosaic Stadium — a test event against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
